Men’s football all day!
Highlight: Bafana tied Brazil! Nice work South Africa!
Background: 4 groups, 4 teams per group
Notable Games:
In Group A, the hosts were unfortunately jeered by their own countrypeople as they were not able to break South Africa despite numerous chances (including a post on a wide open net) and playing a man up on South Africa after the 59th minute. (Unconfirmed) South Africa’s forward Mothobi Mvala may have set a record by obtaining two yellow cards within 3 minutes of each other to be ejected from the game.
Group C:
Germany tied up their game with Mexico 2-2 with a header off a corner in the 77th minute.
South Korea ended up trouncing Fiji 8-0, but took until the 30th minute to finally crack the Fiji Defense.
Group B:
It’s only the 68th minute, and it is 5-2 for Nigeria over Japan in this high scoring, back and forth game. Each team has scored a penalty each, with Nigeria’s Etebo scoring 4 goals so far. …oh, it’s 5-3 now. Bedtime! (and, since I delayed posting, the game ended at 5-4).
Lego Highlight:
Brazil’s Gabriel Jesus hits the post as South African keeper Khune calls for the offside. Play until the whistle!
